Hoffman deal reportedly done

ESPN's Buster Olney is reporting that the Brewers and closer Trevor Hoffman have reached agreement on a deal for 2010 at $8 million with a mutual option for the following season.
As I reported yesterday on the Brewers Blog and this morning in the JS, Hoffman said after the Brewers' final game yesterday that he was close to a new deal with the club. Obviously, that was true.
Hoffman will be 42 soon but showed no signs of slowing down this season, converting 37 of 41 save opportunities and posting a 1.83 ERA in 55 appearances.
I don't know if the Brewers will be announcing this deal or not before their season-ending press conference on Wednesday.

I LIKE IT!
It only makes sense to pay a closer $8 million if they are going to make drastic changes to the starting rotation too.

6 mil last year before the escalators kicked in and 8 mil this year, seems about right to me. Pretty much the same deal.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ted in that having a good closer is like the cherry on top of the sundae. But if the sundae has a 5.37 ERA it's pretty pointless.
